Setting

The fog rises as the dawn breaks over the City of Barrustag. Recent upheaval has brought unrest to the city after Duchess Viyera, the Barrug of Barrustag, passed after a long and fruitful life. Upon her death, a bloody coup executed by her cousins, the Royal Council of Barrustag eliminated many of its members throwing the city into chaos.

Feudal Subversion is set in Tharel, a land that is composed of an independent city named Barrustag and five feudal Realms. Barrustag, as the largest city in the land, is known as the Gateway to the Southern Seas. Its ruler, the Barrug (pronounced bahh-roog) controls the trade with lands outside of Tharel thus possesses an immense amount of power. Many factions from inside and outside Barrustag's walls desire to control the Barrug. Defeat your enemies utilizing your resources and become the BARRUG of Barrustag.

Game Concepts and How to Play

To win the game of Feudal Subversion: Battle for Barrustag, you must collect the most ducats (game currency) during 3 Battle Phases made up of 7 Battle Rounds.

During each battle round, players compete to play the most powerful battle card to win the round. The deck contains 4 types of dual use cards:

  1. Subversion cards which are Realm cards with another power

  2. Cataclysm cards which come into play and affect how the battle is played

  3. Mythic Beasts such as Vhaerus the Dragon who can dominate a battle or alter the outcome using a special ability

  4. Cursed Rune which can torpedo well thought out strategies

The Dungeon is used by the players to refill their hands after playing one of the dual use cards. Many of the dual use cards allow for drawing multiple cards from the Dungeon and then choosing the worst cards to return to the Dungeon. This feature allows players to constantly improve their hands, maintain the proper number of cards for battles and adapt alternative strategies during the game.

The main scoring resource in the game, ducats may be used to change the Power Realm, reset the Dungeon, draw from the Dungeon and play certain Subversion abilities.
